What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT)?

WHAT IS IT?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a treatment that involves breathing 100% oxygen while in a chamber that is pressurized to two to three times the normal atmospheric pressure. The increased pressure and oxygen help to dissolve more oxygen into the bloodstream and stimulate the growth of new blood vessels.

A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that HBOT can be an effective treatment for a variety of conditions. Although HBOT has been used to treat conditions such as decompression sickness and carbon monoxide poisoning for more than a century, its use has expanded in recent years to include the treatment of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, cerebral palsy, and traumatic brain injury. It’s also being studied as a treatment for autism and other conditions. In some cases, HBOT is the only treatment that can effectively treat a condition. In other cases, HBOT can be used in conjunction with other treatments, such as surgery or medications.

BENEFITS?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has many benefits, but one of the most exciting is how it can improve the brain. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a treatment that involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber. This pressurized environment allows the oxygen to dissolve into the blood and tissues, providing a higher concentration of oxygen to the body than what is possible with normal breathing.

Oxygen is essential for the proper function of all body tissues, so HBOT can have wide-ranging effects. One of the most well-known effects of HBOT is its ability to promote healing in injured tissues. This is because oxygen is essential for the production of new blood vessels and for the activation of certain enzymes that are involved in the healing process. Studies have shown that HBOT can improve healing in a variety of injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and stroke. In addition to promoting healing, HBOT has also been shown to improve cognitive function.

A number of studies have shown that HBOT can improve memory and other cognitive functions in people with a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and stroke. One theory is that HBOT may improve cognitive function by increasing the levels of certain growth factors in the brain that are important for brain health.

HBOT is also being studied as a treatment for a variety of mental health conditions. Preliminary research suggests that HBOT may be helpful for treating depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. One theory is that HBOT may help to regulate the levels of certain chemicals in the brain that are involved in mood and emotion.

IS IT SAFE? ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

HBOT is generally considered safe, with few side effects. The most common side effects are mild and include ear pain, sinus pain, and temporary fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate.
